Major Gifts Manager (Albuquerque)

Purpose of Major Gifts Manager Role:

The Major Gifts Manager, publicly represents the organization in the Albuquerque and surrounding communities with a focus on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding annual gifts. In partnership with the Executive Director, Albuquerque Managing Director, and NDI-NM Development and Marketing teams, this position is responsible for carrying out the organization’s annual development plan, annual strategic objectives, and long-range goals.  The primary focus of this position is to build the capacity of the Albuquerque program through all aspects of fund development, including individuals, corporate, governmental, and institutional giving. The Major Gifts Manager directly reports to the Executive Director and is managed on a daily basis by the Albuquerque Managing Director.  This position is part of NDI New Mexico’s administrative staff.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Fundraising

  • Collaborates with NDI-NM Development and Marketing teams to help meet the organization-wide goals of the annual development plan.
  • Partners with Albuquerque development team to achieve Albuquerque fundraising goals and increase community awareness.
  • Meets or exceeds personal fundraising goals as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Works with the Executive Director, Albuquerque Managing Director, and Albuquerque Development team to create annual fundraising plan, including to set contributed income goals for Albuquerque and coordinating with broader Development team to carry out Albuquerque fundraising and communication.
  • Builds and maintains a personal annual portfolio of approximately 150 individual (households), corporate, and institutional donors and prospects. The portfolio will contain specific strategies to meet budget goals with a focus on annual fund giving including: identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors via one-on-one meetings, telephone conversations, written correspondence, and emails. In addition, this position will work in conjunction with Development team in the creation of an annual solicitation strategies for meeting the organization’s budget goals.
  • Works with board members and committee members to maximize the portfolio process and build major donor activity in Albuquerque, with the primary goal of increasing attendance at the annual Gala, maximizing event ROI, and meeting /exceeding contributed income goals, with the additional goal of laying the groundwork for young donors in Albuquerque.
  • Develops and sustains a network of broad local support through networking, attending special events, and building relationships with organizations and individuals who can support the work of NDI New Mexico, including but not limited to Albuquerque Public Schools, City of Albuquerque, and State of New Mexico, high net-worth individuals, local and national foundations, and corporations.
  • Promotes NDI New Mexico in the community through attending events outside NDI New Mexico.

 

Development Administration

  • Responsible for managing the Albuquerque Gala Committee.
  • Works with the Albuquerque Development team to recruit volunteers, manage and set goals for the Albuquerque committees, including:  Gala and Development (Corporate and Individual Donors), and Corporate Council with the ultimate goal of building a strong and sustainable fundraising base to support ongoing operations and The Hiland. 
  • Prepares reports as needed.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate information in Salesforce; donor information, portfolio, opportunities, call reports, gift information, etc.
  • Coordinates Gala event-related activity within the database to handle setup and manage event invitations, RSVPs, attendee tracking and registration, and other donor relations.
  • Oversee third-party Gala logistics coordinator.

 

Financial

  • Have a working knowledge of the entire development annual budget and overall organizational budget.
  • Works with the Albuquerque Managing Director and the Director of Business and Administration on approved expenses and to ensure accuracy in tracking of budgets to stay within the approved budget.
  • Reports any budget variances to Senior Managers Team.
  • Tracks and reports fundraising goals, understands variances, and re-sets strategies to ensure current and future accomplishments.
  • Works with Executive Director and Albuquerque Managing Director to help set attainable financial goals annually for Annual Fund and Gala.
  • Prepares and manages budgets and projections for special events with consideration of fundraising goal objectives.

 

Other

  • Regularly attends and participates in other committee meetings managed by other team members:  Albuquerque Development, Corporate Council, and other committees as needed, such as Government Relations.
  • Reports regularly to Albuquerque Managing Director on progress towards goals.
  • Other duties as needed.

 

Working Conditions, Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Functions performed in a variety of environments including: NDI New Mexico offices, schools, residency sites, and other locations
  • Requires reliable transportation and reimbursable in-state travel to NDI New Mexico locations, participating schools, residency sites, and community events 
  • Requires weekend and evening hours
  • May be required to lift up to 15 lbs.
  • May be required to navigate stairs

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

 

Job Specific Requirements:

  • College Degree
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in development, with demonstrable experience in direct major gift solicitation
  • Communicates effectively through clear speaking, writing, and effective listening; writing samples required, preferably direct solicitation letters and proposals
  • Strong organizational, computer, and smart-phone skills including extended familiarity with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), strong development database skills, MS Windows file/folder management, and Android, Blackberry, or i-Phone calendaring and emailing skills
  • Demonstrates adaptability through a willingness to be flexible and versatile in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency
  • Willingness to assist with whatever needs to get done for the success of the organization including weekly donor visits outside the office, trips to Albuquerque, and running errands
  • Management experience and supervision skills
  • Solves problems by identifying causes, gathering and processing relevant information, generating possible solutions, making recommendations, and resolving problems
