Small business owners often play a key role in support of their local communities by volunteering time or donating money to worthy causes. Please join us for a panel discussion with small business owners and decisions makers as they share their experiences in choosing agencies to support as well as the right AND wrong way to solicit donations. You will leave with a better understanding of how relationships, mission impact, and timing could make or break your request. Philanthropy provides a host of ways for small business owners to do good things; both for the community and for themselves and this luncheon will give you the tools you need to approach small businesses with confidence.

Paula Valdez, Marketing Coordinator, Builder's Source Appliance Gallery. Brands: Builder's Source, Appliance Liquidators and Baillio's. Paula feels blessed to be part of the team that directs the company's philanthropic activities that support mulitple agencies, including; El Ranchito de Los Ninos, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, LifeRoots, Behind the Badge, and El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commmerce.
Leslee Richards, Co-Owner and General Manager, Lieber's Luggage: Leslee Richards is the co-owner and general manager of Lieber's Luggage. She has been managing Lieber's since 1998. Before Lieber's, she worked in the software industry as a marketing manager and technical writer. She owned Sweetwater's Cafe from 1983 - 1988.
She holds a BA from UNM in English and an MBA from UNM's Anderson School. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Vortex Theatre for 10 years and as president of the board for the last 3 years. She was chair of the development committee for the Vortex's 2013-2014 Capitol Campaign.
Frank Fine, Co-Owner Lieber's Luggage, Sun Tours: Frank Fine founded Lieber's Luggage in 1978. "I was a single parent and the retail business gave me the flexibility to balance my family and work responsibilities. My cousin was a luggage dealer in Cleveland, Ohio and I thought 'I could do that!'" That was also the source of the name Lieber's.
In 1998 Frank turned over the reins of the store to his wife Leslee. Since then he has worked as a consultant for non-profits, trade associations and small businesses. He continues to be active in store's marketing and planning processes and oversees accounting and bookkeeping. In 2016, when Leslee and Frank bought Sun Tours, a locally owned group tour company, he began working full-time as CEO there.
Frank holds a BA from Boston University, a Masters in Architecture from UNM, and a MBA from UCLA. He and Leslee were married in 1988 and love traveling together. He plays duplicate and tournament bridge as much as he can.
He has served on numerous boards and committees for local and national non-profits, currently serving with Roadrunner Food Bank and Accion. In 2010 he was honored as the national Travel Goods Association's Person of the Year.
