Make-A-Wish® America serves 62 chapters nationally and 41 international affiliates, and has granted the wishes of over 300,000 children globally. The Foundation was one of the nation’s first recipients of the Council of Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance Seal, signifying adherence to charitable accountability, and was honored in the most recent edition of “America’s Greatest Brands.”  

Make-A-Wish New Mexico (MAW-NM) was established in 1986, and in January of 1987 they granted their first Wish for Donovan, who “Wished” for his very own bicycle. In the past 30 years they have granted more than 2,000 Wishes to New Mexico children! The chapter has an annual budget of $1.8 million and is governed by a dedicated and diversified volunteer Board of Directors. The board is passionately engaged and committed to 100% giving, collectively giving over $100,000 last year and introducing their personal networks.  MAW-NM currently grants in excess of 100 wishes per year with the opportunity to serve even more children.  MAW-NM is committed to raising more funds in order to grant a wish for every eligible child in New Mexico. 

The Board of Directors is seeking a CEO who will lead a team and program ready for growth in revenue and wishes.  The CEO must bring a passion for MAW-NM and visionary leadership capabilities for staff, board and volunteers. The CEO must show a demonstrated track record of managing and leading a successful fundraising department, staff development, and a focus on program excellence.  .  In the opinion of the Search Committee, MAW-NM’s projected growth is dependent on the CEO’s ability to lead a high-performing team and execute a more diversified fundraising program.  Therefore, the CEO must be capable of managing and implementing a successful, robust fundraising program.

This individual must possess intellectual horsepower and be persuasive, fair, and accountable. The CEO’s leadership must be focused on the core ethics of collaboration, self-improvement, and the drive for excellence, to ensure that the best services are being delivered to the children MAW-NM serves.

The CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors.  The CEO is charged with building on MAW-NM’s years of success, realizing the organization’s vision, and achieving its goals for continued financial stability and community engagement.  The CEO is the chief spokesperson representing the organization to constituencies, both internal and external.  In addition to the operational, financial and administrative duties, the scope of responsibility includes overseeing program management, fund development, marketing, community relations, and strategic thinking and planning.  The CEO will build, foster, and maintain a balanced organizational culture that combines the richness and relevance of programs with the efficacy of best business practices, fiscal accountability, and institutional impact.
