The Association of Fundraising Professionals, New Mexico Chapter is proud to celebrate National Philanthropy Day® (NPD) which is observed internationally by more than 100 AFP chapters to highlight each community's top donors, volunteers, foundations and other individuals and organizations involved with philanthropy.

For more than 25 years, the AFP New Mexico Chapter has recognized the endless daily contributions individuals and organizations make in our state to countless causes and missions. How often do we get the opportunity to thank our most generous and committed supporters in front of their peers? National Philanthropy Day is that opportunity!

2016 NPD Keynote Speaker
Brian Colón

Brian ColonBrian Colón, a fanatic philanthropist, and his bride, Maria Aleli Colón, have been married for 20 years and have been blessed.  They have one son, Rafael Mario Colón, who just started his freshman year at George Washington University after graduating from Albuquerque High School.  Colón says he was a “wandering generality” until he met Aleli and her fingerprints are on each and every bit of his personal and professional success.

Colón received his Bachelor's Degree from New Mexico State University (NMSU) in 1998 where he was Vice President of the Student Body and graduated from the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Law in 2001 where he was Graduate & Professional Student Body President. Colón has been named Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year, one of New Mexico's Forty Under 40 Power Brokers and a “force of nature in fundraising.” Currently, Brian serves as immediate past president of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society (Spanish Market & Museum) and the UNM Alumni Association.  He also co-founded and served on both the KiMo Theater Foundation & Popejoy Hall's Board of Directors while serving on the boards of the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association (NMHBA), Albuquerque Community Foundation Trustee (ACF) Future Fund, NMSU Crimson Central New Mexico Alumni Association, United Way of Central New Mexico Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNPE) and New Mexico College Access Network.  He takes any chance he can to empower volunteer boards to identify necessary resources to serve their missions.

After serving extensively in Democratic Party of New Mexico leadership from local official to DPNM State Chairman and 2008 Democratic National Conventional New Mexico Delegation Chair, Colón ran for Lieutenant Governor where he won a heavily competitive 5-way primary election by a 5% margin.

Brian currently practices law at Robles, Rael & Anaya in the areas of transactional negotiations, personal injury, medical malpractice, inadequate security, products liability, insurance bad faith, and corporate transactions. Mr. Colón is passionate about mentoring young people and leaders and has extensive experience in working with local, state and federal elected officials in order to assist individuals and organizations with their various goals.
