2018 Funders Forum

AFP-NM Academy "Major Gifts for Small Nonprofits" Workshop

February 13, 2018

CNM Workforce Training Center

The Association of Fundraising Professional of New Mexico is pleased to offer TWO excellent opportunties for fundraisers on the same day. You are invited to attend one or both events. Schedule, pricing and a link to register online is available below.

1) FUNDERS FORUM 2018 (8:00-11:00 am)

At this unique event you will be able to personally meet with some of the largest funders in NM, including private foundations and corporations. You'll hear them discuss the basic facts relevant to their grant programs; giving priorities, deadlines, application processes, contact information; and ask questions one-on-one.

The Funders Forum is popular among fundraisers and other nonprofit staff members at all levels. For those new to fundraising and grantwriting, it is a great opportunity to meet and learn from funders. For experienced fundraisers, it is a chance to find out about changes in funding prioirities.

Some of the funders you'll meet are Albuquerque Community Foundation, ABQ Involved, Anderson Charitable Foundation, Bank of America, Community Foundation of Southern NM, Con Alma Health Foundation, Dion's, Intel Corporation, Lovelace Health System, McCune Charitable Foundation, NM Gas Company, Nusenda Credit Union, PNM & PNM Resources Foundation, Southwest Capital Bank, United Way of Central NM and Wells Fargo.

Major gifts has become THE fundraising vehicle that many nonprofits utilize for a significant percentage of their revenue, while many other are trying to figure out how to do so. Fundraising books, blogs and conference presentations all point nonprofits in the direction of major gifts to more efficiently and effectively increase revenue.

Yet there can be sizable challenges to major gift (and planned gift) fundraising in small nonprofits, which are not often addressed in much of the fundraising literature. In fact, it might not even be right for your organization at this time. "Major Gifts for Small Nonprofits" will explore major gift fundraising from a broad overview to the details of an "ask" in the context of the often limited staffing and resrouces of small nonprofits. This session is designed for Development Directors, Executive Directors and nonprofit board members.

In this half-day workshop, we will discuss:

  • What is a major gift for your organization?
  • Is major gift fundraising an appropriate strategy for you?
  • What are the benefits and challenges of implementing a major gifts program?
  • How does on ask someone for $500, $5000, $10,000 or more?

Presenters are Michael Barndollar and Linley Daly.  This workshop qualifies for 3 CFRE points.
